| Looking at the example, it doesn't look to me like they did anything to the guy's picture, just put him in front of a background image. Maybe just increase sharpness and/or contrast? |

| Just get the photo and go to Filter-->Poster Edges and adjust the controls till you get the look you want. |

There is a php code snippet called "pingfix" that takes care of them in IE, but it only works on regular images in the page. If you have a png as a background, there's no known fix.
